Disheartenment

The state of being discouraged; dispair.

I had to search for the right word. If you are disheartened, you feel disappointed about something and have less confidence or less hope about it than you did before. The general state or condition, that I feel and that I see, is just plain disheartenment. The election of 2024 has caused this malaise in our country.
