Just thinking about the impact on construction in the U.S., once we start the deportations. Texas will have a lot of camp construction. That is about it. This video from Tyson’s Corner, Virginia will tell you everything you need to know about the impact in construction.
For craft trades, the Greater DC Metropolitan Area wage scale is way above the national average, and it is above Davis-Bacon Act Wage Determinations for which a worker in Mississippi would give up an arm. These immigrant workers are tax payers, and paid in $77 billion last year. They do the hard labor that you cannot. You are too soft, too fat, with bad knees, lol. (I am.)
You will have to think on this one. Construction, landscaping, farming—all are supported by the pillar of immigrants. Not supposed to be, but that is the reality. I would guess 30% of the labor. We are in a construction boom and we are still short handed. We need more workers now.
Trump’s plans to deport will devastate this country. just saying. There is another place we can discuss this.
Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more. I plan to use it for things that don’t fit in the newsletter, like work-in-progress or quick questions.
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to HOT BUTTONS, you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them around!
You can also share notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where every reader of HOT BUTTONS can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond.
Why Substack Notes
Fellow writers and readers are spending time in Notes for a variety of reasons.
Ted Gioia sees Notes as a forum for dialogue.
The idea behind Notes is simple. Millions of people now participate in Substack as writers and readers—but much of this is built on long articles and essays. We now have a forum for dialoguing and sharing shorter posts.
Chris Ryan is drawn to Substack as an alternative for legacy social media.
One of my main reasons for joining Substack was to wean myself off exploitative social media platforms. I’m hoping this is going to help move us along on that journey!
Sherman Alexie wants to create a kind and creative new space in Notes.
I’m going to focus on being positive, with my own thoughts and photos and by linking to songs, stories, poems from around the web and from other Substacks.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there!
I know I need to say this:
Friend, I’m both delighted and astounded that you are here with me. It does my heart good that you care this much to have found my voice in this wilderness. Welcome! Thank you!
I have dedicated myself to making this country a better place not just for all of us, but also for future generations. The children are my first thought.
Please consider becoming a subscriber; paid or free, regardless – I’m truly glad to see a fellow traveler, and look forward to our conversations. Comments are turned on for everyone as I want to hear your thoughts. Solidarity, friendship, and a common cause say “Let’s work together.”
HOT BUTTONS is now read across 46 U.S. states and 15 countries. I hoped to make 500 subscribers by the end of the year. I started late July. I will get very close if a few more join.
