We are lucky to be here. America is not at risk of moving to authoritarianism. The middle says we are not going there. Why? Our government is doing an extremely good job of navigating the many hurdles thrown at it. Hence, there is insufficient discord to muster a majority interested in electing a lunatic demagogue.
