I am always enlightened by the input from Jess Piper. Her insights and her ability to write clearly about what she sees and hears from her many forays into the heartland are astoundingly refreshing.
Jess Piper refers to herself as a dirtroad Democrat, and she helps me to understand what it is that we are facing. I think knowing that is the first step needed to overcoming the fixed mindsets we face. Her post today is about four types of white women (majority) that stand with Trump. Here is her post., shared for you. You will be required at the end of the read to list the four type-categories that she identifies.
Okay, I had to go back and reread to recover the types, and I summarize and characterize them here:
The Wealthy and Well Connected: have money reasons (tax cuts, insulated) and can afford the turmoil.
The Indoctrinated: the pulpit led, advocating a national ban on abortion, who think women in the eyes of their community, must be a mother and submissive.
The Pick-Me: proximity to power equals power for them, and their white husbands or fathers or brothers or friends will save them and they are: Pretty enough; Thin enough; and, Young enough to be exempt from bad policy.
The Ignorant: lack knowledge or awareness, and reading and disseminating propaganda because they like Trump. Focused on immigration, for instance, when they will lose disability, food stamps, and rental assistance.
This is critical input as we need to understand how to sway, through educational programs, these groups.
I know I need to say this:
Friend, I’m both delighted and astounded that you are here with me. It does my heart good that you care this much to have found my voice in this wilderness. Welcome! Thank you!
