It was enthralling to gather the impact of my words on you, PJ. I turn 76 next month. The media in 1977-1979 had a pro-Shah bias. The media would avoid pro dialogue of the protestors. My landlady, Poori, explained to me why there was an anti-American bias in Iran. Not another Iranian said a word to me. The CIA installed the Shah back into power in Iran in 1958 I think. She also explained the white shirts. Blood would contrast vividly and the target was clearly visible. Thank you for your input. Til I Go Down was a Jackson Brown song I missed at the time, but it says the impetus and courage we must all have to take down this dicktraitor.
Carl, your newsletter about forks in the road, brought me to tears, & then when I listened to “When I Go Down” shortly after reading that, I was literally sobbing. I see & feel what’s coming & I grieve so much for the lives that will be lost.
I’m probably close to your age, Vietnam & Kent State are real to me.
I remember the shah escaping Iran during the protests, but I don’t remember hearing about the young men in their white shirts. Was that not covered in the US press, or did I just not focus & see it?
Many of my childhood friends were profoundly psychologically damaged by being in that war.
I wish I were 10 yrs younger & not somewhat handicapped, because I would travel to DC & participate when we reach that red line event.

I’m 74, & yes, I was aware that the Iranian people hated the Shah & were well aware that the US helped him into power. Then, if I recall correctly, we allowed him to seek refuge in the US when he was forced to flee.
"At the DNC we have quiet, lots of quiet, except for raising donations." The other day, I received a very polite letter from Kamala Harris (whoever does this sort of thing for her), asking me to donate money to the DNC, given how badly things went and how much there is to be done. I wrote back that I'd taken thousands out of my retirement account to give to Democratic candidates, and there is less than zero to show for it. Why on earth would I take out more?
I’m kind of in the same mind as you kd, gave thousands over the 2024 year, to individual candidates all over the nation. I gave to at least 4 different state’s abortion initiatives, several GOTV orgs, & orgs that help women & young people run for office. I even gave to the DNC. But after I learned from state & county Democrat Parties that they are severely underfunded & that the DNC doesn’t tend to share those resources; I’ve made up my mind that national org isn’t getting another dime from me, at least not until I see actual evidence that they are doing some organizing & funding in the hinterlands.
I’m really pissed that they have failed to change with the times, change their messaging, change their focus, & have some of the elders step aside & promote the new young firebrands.
The DNC could use the help of Steve Schmidt of the Substack, The Warning.
He has some excellent advice on how to engage with the Republicans. I wish they would, listen to him, but I fear they will continue to hire the same old consultants that gave them bad advice & caused this loss.
I have commented on 3-4 other Substacks of people asking about how to organize & have recommended them to your newsletter. I’ve also shared the link to your newsletter that had the organizing video of Ms Chenowith in it.
It's good to hear forward thinking. It's something that gives me hope. I saw a writing here on Substack last November, that for the life of me I cannot re-find, that analyzed views, and votes. It found that no matter how you break it down, voters are, over time, leaning more blue, even in the reddest of areas.
I attended a MoveOn group meeting right after the election and an Indivisible group meeting this week. Both were lead by incredible people.
Thanks for the introduction to Erica Chenowith, who I was unfamiliar with. I already restacked your post and am now going to post a direct link to her video.

I am upset. I offered to help the DNC. I got no reply.
Ditto Carl
Fingers crossed they will hire you [if you are willing] to organize We The People...we are many and you are correct -
Thank you for your writings -

That is very disturbing.
I’ve shared the “Forked Roads” newsletter a lot. I hope it brings you more subscribers
