Right on Carl. Being the recipient of not one but two transplanted lungs, hip replacement and dental reconstruction due to side effects of steroid-based medication, I know all too well that what you present here is in fact true based on my personal experience.

Adam, we live in a time where there are advanced medical procedures that we did not have when I was born (1949). I am glad you were able to get help you needed when you needed it. I think you are saying you received some $500,000 in care procedures. How did insurance play in that? Medicaid? Medicare? I bet that is an eye-opening storyline.

Hi Carl. I was on oxygen for 7 years prior to surgery and after my surgeries there was/is maintenance involved. My 2 primary anti-rejection meds cost about $136,000 per year. Much of the cost of my other meds has been shunted to me but I'd say in the last 10 years they (my insurer) went in for $1 million or more. It cost $13,000 minimum for an overnight stay for observation.

I also have sleep apnea which was mostly covered but insurance completely covered my digital hearing aides which were $6,000 or so. Of course this is private (Aetna) insurance thanks to the ACA but I'll be 65 this year and plan to work until 67.

There may not even be a Medicaid/Medicare by the time this former US Marine is ready to make the switch.
